Boot Hill Museum is currently in the process of a 6 million dollar expansion project. The new building will contain a new permanent exhibit hall, gift shop, welcoming lobby, and a temporary exhibit hall that will feature changing and traveling exhibits. VISIBILITY – The expansion plan includes an old western look on the exterior building that will remain true to our heritage and mirror the treasured stories shared inside. Many people that plan their vacation to visit Boot Hill Museum are sometimes unable to locate the entrance and believe that the Front Street replica is a series of stores to shop in.The addition of the new building will catch the attention of all who seek to find the museum and also the many that travel Wyatt Earp Boulevard on a regular basis. Front Street replicas and the current museum complex will remain unchanged.
ACCESSIBILITY – The new building will provide easy access for all our visitors with a welcoming lobby space and new exhibits on the main level of the complex. There will be ramp access to the main entrance, along with widened pathways throughout the exhibits that everyone can enjoy. The current ramp access to the building is difficult to get through and requires gates to be unlocked into the museum each time.
ECONOMY – Visitors of Boot Hill Museum make an estimated $5.5 million economic impact in Dodge City each year. The expansion of the museum is projected to double the attendance within five years after the opening of the redeveloped museum.
RELEVANCE – Exhibits will engage baby boomers, millennials and people of all ages, encouraging multi-generational sharing of experiences and creating unforgettable memories. There will be interactive displays and technology throughout the new exhibits along with bilingual signage.
SPACE – Boot Hill Museum is able to provide more stories and details of Dodge City’s past utilizing additional space that will be provided in the new building. Boot Hill Museum’s expansion will greatly enhance the visitor experience by providing nine new permanent exhibits where more of the Museum’s collection will be displayed. Additional space for those objects will help the curatorial staff protect and safeguard these artifacts. The expansion will also give us the ability to add more exhibits throughout the complex.
EDUCATION – Boot Hill Museum will increase their education opportunities for schools, homeschooled children, and families. The expansion will feature new and fresh exhibits that will include character education programs and a venue for temporary displays for traveling exhibits, demonstrations, and learning space.
